Hey There, Pangkor!

August 07, 2017

Taking a little stroll down memory lane, of the year 2015, where my friend, Janelle, and I decide to yolo-it-up and head over to Pangkor Island, Malaysia.

How To Get There:
  1. Singapore Changi Airpirt > Ipoh Airport
  2. Ipoh Airport > Ipoh Bus Terminal
  3. Ipoh Bus Terminal > Lumut Bus Terminal/ Ferry Point
  4. Lumut Ferry Point > Pangkor Island (15 minute Ferry Ride)
I use Skyscanner most of the time to search for flights so roughly gauge the cost of flight tickets, and book directly from the Airline Company Site. It's so much cheaper to book from the Airline and not thru any sort of booking websites or Agents.

Where to Stay:
I honestly forgot where we stayed. (because writing this post 2 years late does not help)

I know its a cute resort, with a Private pool and A private Beach, and it comes with a buffet breakfast, in which we would always miss because we sleep like pigs.

I LOOOVE using Booking.com
It has such wonderful Hotel deals that blow your mind, and their offers are fantastic.

Ultimately, you can use Agoda as well, or Airbnb.

What to do:
1) Rent a Scooter and Race Around the Island
Thankfully, it is not necessary for you to have a licence in order to rent/ride a scooter.
And it goes as cheap as SGD 10/Day with a refundable deposit of SGD 50.

'Twas my first time to ever ride a scooter, and like every beginner out there, I was a complete noob.
I eventually got the hang of it, and had my Fast and Furious moment with them.

2)Island Hopping
Goes without saying.
Pangkor Island is surrounded with many extra islands, so do take your time to explore each one of them. Plus, Boat Transport is relatively affordable.

3) Sun Tan and Chill
The scorching sun helps you get your perfect shade of tan

4) Socialise with the Locals
Who knows the island better than the locals?
They give the best tips - from food, to Drinks to even traffic.

Oh yeah, we ended up playing volleyball with them, and I gave up after 5 minutes.

5) Visit Dutch Fort
Really interesting place.
Basically, remains from the WW2.
Spice up your travels with some history!

6) Take a ton of Pictures
DUH.
Instagram it.

7) Catch Sotong (Squids) At Night
I had the golden opportunity to hang out with our local boat driver over some food, and he ended up bring us fishing at 12mn for some Sotongs!
It's such a joy and so therapeutic!
Feels like one of those arcade games that you get addicted to after while.

8) And Watch the Water Dance
and after all that Sotong Catching, we had the ultimate golden opportunities to see Planktons!
They actually light up the waters at night, so that was deffos my highlight of the trip.

In Conclusion,
Pangkor Island was the getaway I needed from the busy-ness of Singapore.
It being not as established as the other tourist Islands in Asia (such as Koh Phi Phi), You can expect much lesser crowd, which is definitely a plus point, because it gives you more freedom to roam around and You have the privacy you need.

and Its cheap! (Duh why else would we want to go)
